Up and coming Austin, TX bluesman Seth Walker performed an intimate evening of upbeat Chicago-style blues, mixed with more traditional classic blues melodies at SF’s own Biscuits & Blues last night, Wednesday, May 13.
Walker has an amazingly powerful voice that can rival any rat pack wannabe, yet his style is a bit more gritty, kind of like a young Tom Waits.
The live show consisted of a four-piece band, including a stand-up bass, keyboard and drum set, a much stripped down lineup compared to the ten or so musician’s whose work appears on Walker’s new album, “Leap of Faith,” which is an upbeat and always heartfelt journey through blues, pop, and classic rock ‘n’ roll.
Walker plays the guitar as though he is wringing wet notes out of a dampened guitar. The sound is full, but slightly muted, leaving room for Walker’s powerful, yet tender vocals. This is blues music for the next generation.
