Retox Lounge pickled

Posted on 17 January 2008

Where else will you find bar owners who have lovers’ spats behind the bar and drink enough to grab a mic and sing with the band? Nowhere, we hope, since the spat resulted in a shattered pint glass and music is best left to musicans… The slick space has potential, but it was painfully clear why nobody had heard of it before (besides the fact it is in Dog Patch). It was too dark to grab a decent picture, so here is an indecent one: The toilet is indicative of unfulfilled potential in that band stickers seem welcome, yet 18 months in biz has netted Retox only half that many stickers. Still, the outing was positive as the musical acts were strong. Plus $2 PBRs can make up for a lot.

Back to the music, Beatscool/Roadhead refugees Elke Nicole, Frank Zeccola and Bill Beninghof killed it with their brand of semi-acoustic stylings. If Sarah McLachlan met DJ Shadow over absinthe in New Orleans, this is what it would sound like—and they’ll be bringing it to you every Wednesday night at Retox. So go and ad some stickers to their collection. Why not? It’s right off the T at 3rd & 20th…
