Haight Ashbury
Editorial By David Wills
The Fair is our totem.
Let it be known.
As it ever was
Self done.
We like it like that.
Ours a Fair
The Haight Ashbury way,
with style
and pith.
I like this place. The Haight has been good to me, and I want to return the favor: I want to relish the exuberance of the neighborhood, to speak up for the people who live and play and work here. We are a passionately committed people. We’re not all heads, and we’re not all hard-working desk-job people either, we’re a cross section of one lively tid-bit of America.
Some of us are commercially-minded retailers, but many of us are politically radical, chubby lay-abouts, the ne’er-do-wells and the artists, writers, teachers and thinkers who made and make this village what it is – and why you want to live here. It’s a self-perpetuating society – if you can’t take the nabe – you leave.
